Founding Member & Principal Engineer

Mark Quenneville

 Mark Quenneville's bio photo

Mark grew up in Toronto, Canada and as a young engineer, immigrated to the US to work at Boeing Space & Defense Group.  Shortly thereafter, he established Meridian Engineered Solutions Group in 1995 to address his passion for technology and his entrepreneurial projects.

He currently leverages his 20 year experience base in engineering and technology for his clients in the Pacific Northwest and Canada.   Mark has a particular focus on the business of technology for mega-yachts, research vessels, ROVs and manned submersibles.  A strong background in Systems Engineering allows Mark to perform as a Principal Consultant, or Project Manager on large-scale

projects.  He is an active member of the ABS Special Committee on Underwater Vehicles and Systems, the Marine Technology Society (MTS) and a former Transport Canada Designated Engineering Representative (DAR).

Back in the Gulf oil boom, Mark worked as a commercial diver to fund his multi-discipline engineering education and did his engineering apprenticeship with Messerschmitt-Bolkow and Blohm Gmbh, on helicopter avionics and flight controls.  Inspired by the mechatronics of early robotic manipulator arms, Mark’s engineering career focused on real-time embedded control systems.  For the next 11 years, he designed, built, tested, and commissioned flight control systems, embedded engine computers, integrated navigation systems and passenger entertainment systems.

His technical leadership was affirmed early in his career when he was appointed by the Canadian Minister of Transport as a Design Approval Representative in the specialty of Systems and Equipment, Avionics and Software.  In this role, he learned the importance of collaboration with government entities and began building a wide network of relationships with the FAA, ABS, Germanischer Lloyd,  IMO and other global classing authorities.

As a Microsoft Program Manager, he took a leadership role in a joint venture between Microsoft and NBC to pioneer the convergence of television and internet.  He managed the “launch team” to create the cyber-infrastructure for a large scale internet web hosting facility and led a development team to create net-ops services and web publishing tools.  MSNBC on the Internet was launched precisely on schedule, July 15th 1996.  In the first two years of operation, his team received many technical accolades and patents for MSNBC’s back-end information systems while he blazed the technical trail for web publication systems and helped industry finalize practical XML standards for content syndication (ICE).

In seven years at Vulcan Inc, he championed complex technology initiatives, reviewed venture capital proposals that mapped to Paul Allen’s Wired World and supported the investment analysts on technical issues related to broadband and Video-On-Demand systems.  He also created Vulcan’s first Software Engineering Department and later, the Technology Research Group.  Special projects included Internet2, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) for the yacht fleet, globally distributed multimedia systems, HD video development and a manned submersible for science, exploration and recreation.  It gives him great satisfaction to see his vision and efforts translate into applications and machines that change the world in some way.

Mark lives in Bellingham, Washington with his wife Jackie and two children.  Outside of work, he plays on the Bellingham Avalanche hockey team and is active leader in the local youth hockey league.
